The solo competition is held annually by the Salt Spring Concert Band [SSCB].
Each spring the SSCB invites applicants who are residents of the
Southern Gulf Islands and are actively studying music or who perform in a
local amateur music ensemble. The winner receives a $500 award.

2009 Solo Competition Winner
Danielle
Topaz, winner of the 2009 Salt Spring Concert Band Solo Competition, is a
fine young soprano. The 17 year old, Grade 12 student at Gulf Islands
Secondary School was born in England and has lived on Salt Spring Island
for nine years.
Danielle's voice training has come
through her school music classes and workshops. She sings with GISS
senior choir, jazz choir, and female choir. Danielle enjoys writing
and is the GISS Year Book editor. Her goals are to continue with her
singing and to study journalism after graduation.
Danielle Topaz will be the featured soloist
performing "Caresse sur l'océan" by Bruno Coulais from the film "Les
choristes" with the Salt Spring Concert Band on Saturday, December 12,
2009 at ArtSpring on Salt Spring Island.
